I want to move my kid into his own house and still have the parents in the original house, but I can't figure out how to do that and still be able to play all my sims.

Well that'd be a shame, but I suppose it makes sense. Still pretty awesome to have two homes though. And it works great for my current storyI brought a second home, I believe you may not be able to increase the number of Sims per household. I may be wrong but it only seems logical you can't.
It's an option with the new patch. Use your phone (or computer, I suppose--though I only tried phone so far) and under Real Estate is the option to 'Purchase Second Home' (I believe the command is named, or something akin to that). Voila, your Sims will have two houses. How do you buy a second home? That would be awesome! - edited June 2013I could see a good use for this for example young adult moves out of parents home you have to decide to play his home or the parents home and loose all the money now you can just move the young adult into a new home and he will go there and you can still control your parents home.Sid1701d-'I love my life, live my life and live to play, laugh and have fun.'

That's exactly what I plan to do with it! Can't wait to try it out. - edited June 2013I haven't patched yet, and probably won't until next week, but I am curious to how this works in detail.
It would be annoying if you want to split your household between the two homes, but they all insist on returning to one or the other. I would like to control two homes at the same time and have those sims recognize one or the other as their primary address.
My second use for it would be to have a spring/summer home and a fall/winter home.0 - edited June 2013I have purchase a 2nd house but it allowed to move whole household over. So it mean you wont be able to split your household.

Can you at least visit the other home and sleep over? Or are you forced to move in? - edited June 2013After you have purchased the additional home, you will have 3 options as follow:-
1] Move into the private house
2] Buy on the lot
3] Visit the new house
I havent tried visit the new house yet... - edited June 2013
Hmm, this plum just a little bit. It would've been ideal if one could split the household at least. After you have purchased the additional home, you will have 3 options as follow:-

Need to play with this a bit more with a random family to test things out. - edited June 2013When you visit the new home and you just visit, you do not have all the options available to you unless you move in. You can go back and forth to the homes you brought but I do not know of any shortcomings on each move. I do like the fact you can move to other worlds which most was asking for since the beginning, but it would be nice if you can have your friends visit you as well, maybe in Sims 4 :?:AMD 2700X 16 GB AMD Radeon 590 8 GB Rosewill Rise Full Tower SB Recon PCIE 3D LG Ultrawide 34'

That's not true.
I purchased a second home and moved the in-laws there. Then I had the other set of in-laws buy a lot and build a beach house. I had the primary couple and their baby on one property, with his parents in a beach house and her parents across the way in another beach house. You can do whatever you want. - edited June 2013Furthermore, the two sets of in-laws live in their respective other houses and they sleep there and eat there, and cook and clean and do everything there. When I want them to visit I hit the home button and they come to the couples house, but when I want them to go back to their lots I just go into map mode and click on the real estate with the stars. Then they go there.

This is a new feature as of yesterday, so you aren't that far behind. - edited June 2013I've notice some issues with the second home. I've visited it twice with my sims and their toddler. For some reason, the toddler disappears and is back in the original home. I've not been able to determine when that happens or have any idea of why.
The second issue take a little explanations. I started my twin brother sims out in a small home in the lot by Stoney Falls. After some time I improved that house to have two bedrooms, bath, etc. A nice home. One that was fenced in to keep out the paparazzi. But eventually after marriages I wanted to expand and after making enough simoleans I had them buy the lot at 15 Summer Hill and I built a large home, moved them in adopted children, hired a butler, and eventually ended up with 8 people in the home. When this patch came out I purchased the lot by Stoney Falls to use as a vacation home.
The problem, my sims cannot lock the gate. When I clock on the gate I get Visit, Visit with and Real Estate... I consider this an oversight. My sims should be able to lock the gate. - edited June 2013I am hoping that once I get my game up and running AGAIN, that I'll be able to test out this feature. My hope is to buy a lot to enable my Sims to stable their horses. We'll see if this is a possibility, anyway. Wish me luck. After much trouble over the weekend, I finally got my game running only to have it close down randomly, again. Just reinstalled the base game, and am replacing LN with the Origin version. Shouldn't be too long, now. I will not be reinstalling my Store Stuff at this time. :?You can download (free) all three volumes of my Night Whispers Star Trek Fanfiction here: http://galacticgal.deviantart.com/gallery/ You'll need to have a pdf reader. http://www.getfreeebooks.com/star-trek-original-series-fan-fiction-trilogy/ - edited June 2013Does anyone have an idea on how the 'Move To New World' feature works? I've tried twice now but my game doesnt do anything nothing pops up on my screen at all. I want to move my family from Sunset Valley to a new area but I dont know how it works. Can someone help out?0
- edited June 2013Well, this is a bummer for me. I thought I would be able to move my sims newly married daughter out into the second home, seems I cant. I cant even set a bed as theirs in the second, home (next door). If I use her cell phone to 'Move' it moves the entire family. And all the stuff goes in inventory. Thank Heavens for the Quit feature to UNDO that mess.
So, the best I can see is that I can use that lot for the snowboarding and watertoys (basically seasonal things) or maybe turn it into a resort or something like that. A spot for weddings, who knows.
But for the girl who moved her inlaws over there, I wish I knew how she did it. I dont seem to have that option with the kids... and it doesnt seem that the the sims kids can kick out the parents into the other home either. Hmm... - edited July 2013So I just moved my sims daughter and granddaughter to their new house using purchase additional home and they an pretty much do everything they could do at the original house except they cannot cook at the new one. They only have the option to have a quick meal. And u cannot lock doors or set beds also.
- edited July 2013I'm currently playing the Collins family in Island Paradiso. I wish I knew this before I kicked my oldest kid, Omar Collins, out. :? I guess it worked out okay because my bf now plays Omar under a different save. Apparently, Omar has done quite well for himself. He's in the military and has a slot machine in his home which he hacks for money.
ATM, the oldest daughter, Cristobel, is in University. When she gets home, I'm going to try this.
My question is, does each household show separately or are they in one sim panel? - edited July 2013As someone mentioned earlier, having a young-adult move out away from parents would be ideal for this 'Buy second home' thing. However, it seems the options are limited so you cannot split the household. Can you not just use the Lock Door option on where your YA will live and set 'Lock everyone but active sim'? And then set the parents for the front door of your other home?
- edited July 2013Finally tried out this option tonight, the Morganthe's have bought a 2nd home in plum, only because the eldest daughter wanted a horse and this place has stables.
Bought the horse, had daughter ride it over to 2nd property. At some point she got the curfew message (still a teen) so she left to go home, but the horse stayed put where he was. Appears perfectly happy out in his field and going into the stable for hay
At no point has the horse attempted to go to the primary house, so it seems to work as a stableyard at least. If I can get a couple of the kids to move here when they age up I'll be thrilled. - edited July 2013Do you have to have world adventures to buy a second home, because I can't purchase homes, just community lots
